ApplicantStack™ provides many default Candidate Fields for your use, but you may decide that your organization needs more or less fields. You may also want to change some of the default drop down options. This section will show you how to accomplish this.
Note: Unless otherwise noted in the section of this guide labeled Configure Application Fields, configuring an application field utilizes the same processes and fields as configuring candidate fields.

The following image is the Candidate Fields Grid.
The grid contains the following information:
- Name: The name of the candidate field.
- Description: The description of the candidate field.
- Type: This is the type of the candidate field. The type can be picklist, date, numeric, select many, user or text.
- Visibility: Denotes whether the field is visible or not on the job board.
- Required: Shows whether the field is a required or not.
- Recruiter Only: Shows whether the fields are visible to only recruiters.
- Actions: Allows you to edit, delete or change the order of the candidate fields. Note that the default field set is not able to be deleted.
You can select all the candidate fields by clicking the check box beside the Name column or you can select each one individually by clicking the checkbox beside the candidate field. This is useful for deleting multiple fields at once.
You will notice three buttons on the right side of the screen. These are Create Candidate Field, Reorder Fields, and Delete.
Create a Candidate Field
To create a candidate field click the Create Candidate Field button. This will take you to the following screen.
There are seven fields on the Add Candidate Field screen. They are as follows:
- Name: This is the name of your candidate field.
- Description: This a description of the candidate field and is optional as it is used for display purposes.
- Type: This is the candidate field’s type. This drop down consists of six choices and they are:
- Text: Free, text box allowing up to 250 characters
- Numeric: Only able to enter numbers
- Date: Calendar select available or data must be entered in a date format.
- Picklist: A picklist is created for selection. See Picklist below.
- Select Many: A picklist that allows more than one selection. See Select Many below.
- User: A picklist of Users is presented for selection.
- Visibility: You can either select public or private. Select public to show the field on the Job Board. Select private to show the field to internal users only.
- Required: Designate whether the candidate field is a required field or not.
- Recruiter Only: Designate whether the field is visible to users that are designated as recruiters. For more information see Users.
When you are ready to save your new candidate field, click the Save button. If you do not want to save your candidate field, click Cancel.
Select Many/ Dropdown/Checkboxes
To add or edit options for a multiple options field choose edit options under Type in the Candidate Fields Grid.
If the Picklist is empty, clicking Edit Options presents the following screen:
To begin adding options to the Picklist click the button on the right labeled Add Options.
In the text box labeled Field Options enter all the options that you want to include in your picklist. Enter each option on a new line. When you are finished click the button labeled Save.
Your Picklist field will now be populated with the options that you entered. You are able to edit, delete, or rearrange the order of the options in the picklist. The red arrow in the image below shows the edit icon and the orange arrow points to the delete icon.
Clicking the edit icon allows you to change the text for a given option.
When you have finished with your changes click the Save button.
Editing a Candidate Field
To edit a Candidate field click the edit icon for the job field that you would like to modify. This icon can be found under the Actions column in the Candidate Fields Grid as illustrated below.
You can edit any of the seven fields listed below:
- Name: This is the name of your candidate field.
- Description: This a description of the candidate field and is optional as it is used for display purposes.
- Type: This is the candidate field’s type. This drop down consists of six choices and they are:
- Text: Free, text box allowing up to 250 characters
- Numeric: Only able to enter numbers
- Date: Calendar select available or data must be entered in a date format.
- Dropdown: A list of options in a dropdown format where only one option can be selected.
- Radio Buttons: A list of options in a radio button format where only one option can be selected.
- Select Many: A list that allows more than one selection.
- Checkboxes: A list that allows more than one selection.
- User: A picklist of Users is presented for selection.
- Visibility: You can either select public or private. Select public to show the field on the Job Board. Select private to show the field to internal users only.
- Required: Designate whether the candidate field is a required field or not.
- Recruiter Only: Designate whether the field is visible to users that are designated as recruiters. For more information see Users.
When you are ready to save your changes, click the Save button. If you do not want to save your changes, click Cancel.
Reorder Fields
You may run into an occasion when you need to have your fields rearranged. You can reorder your fields by clicking the Reorder Fields button.
Clicking this button brings you to the screen below:
You can reorder your fields by clicking a field and the dragging it to the position that you want. When you are finished, click Save.
Deleting a Candidate Field
There are two ways to delete a candidate field. The first way is to simply click the trashcan icon under the Actions column in the Candidate Field Grid for the candidate field that you would like to delete. See the example below for deleting the candidate field labeled Test.
The second way to delete a candidate field is by clicking the checkbox beside the field that you want to delete and then click the Delete button on the right side of the screen. With this method you can select more than one candidate field to delete.
Note: You will not be able to delete the default candidate fields.
