Creating a Questionnaire Layout Template

You can create a Layout Template, for a Questionnaire, to customize the way the questions in the questionnaire are displayed.  A Layout Template is optional.  If you don't create a layout template, the questionnaire will be displayed in the standard way, i.e. one question after another, vertically.  Specifying a Layout Template can be a good way to make a questionnaire easier for your users to answer, as well as align to your company's forms.

Creating a Layout Template is an advanced task, that requires a knowledge of HTML. If you would like us to create a layout template for one of your questionnaires, please contact us for a quote.

Example

Consider the following questions, created in the standard way, using the questionnaire builder and displayed using the default layout (i.e. no Layout Template).

Questionnaire No Template

Now consider the same questionnaire with a custom Layout Template applied.

Technical Details

A Layout Template is nothing more than HTML code, that specifies the layout of the questions in the questionnaire.  In the Layout Template you use special codes to indicate where the questions should appear in the layout.  The following codes are available:

CODEDESCRIPTION
{QT} Insert the Text of the next question in the questionnaire.
{QI} Insert the Input of the next question in the questionnaire, using the standard display settings. Answer options will be displayed horizontally.
{QI width:40} Insert the Input of the next question in the questionnaire, with a width of 40 characters (applies to Text questions).
{QI layout:vertical} Insert the Input of the next question in the questionnaire, and show the Answer Options vertically (applies to Yes/No, Select Many and Multiple Choice questions).
{QI layout:dropdown} Insert the Input of the next question in the questionnaire, and show the Answer Options in a drop-down menu (applies to Yes/No, Select Many and Multiple Choice questions).
{QI layout:listbox} Insert the Input of the next question in the questionnaire, and show the Answer Options in a listbox (applies to Yes/No, Select Many and Multiple Choice questions).
